Dawn Patrol Away Day at Orchardleigh – Wed 9th September 2026

The long-awaited day finally arrived for 18 keen Dawn Patrol golfers. We had expected a larger field, but Kevin Campbell, Seniors Captain, pulled rank and took five players for his team; with a couple of injuries as well, we were left with six three-ball teams.

After bacon rolls and coffee, we headed to the first tee to test our skills on this fine Somerset course.
With sunshine, wind, clinging rough around the greens and woolly fairways, it is fair to say most of us were found wanting. Only three players scored 30 points or more.

Well done to Andy Carnohan and Kevin McLeod, who both scored 32 points. Vaughan Bristow, playing on his home course, just edged them out to take first place with 33 and taking home  £18.
The Front 9 Prize of £9 went to Kevin Mc Leod with 19 points, while 16 points was enough for Charles Gerty to take the Back 9 Prize of £9.

The team prize of £12 each,  went to the final group of Vaughan, Paul Steer and Arthur Noble, who won on countback with 65 points. Hard luck to Alex Fogwill, Kevin McLeod and Martin Taylor.

Kevin McLeod won nearest the pin in two on the fifth, and Vaughan took nearest the pin on the 17th.

After the golf, we enjoyed a hot basket meal before battling the afternoon traffic home.
Thanks to everyone who attended. Let’s hope for another great day next year on Monday 6 September 2027, with the venue to be announced.
