JCB Raffel Draw – Monday the 4th of May

The draw to win a round at the famous JCB course was won by one of our newest members, Gordon Hiscock. As the prize includes two friends, there may suddenly be a queue of people wanting to become Gordon’s best mate!

Congratulations Gordon, and thank you to everyone who bought a ticket.

John Cowie Trophy – Wednesday 6th May

Our annual Dawn Patrol John Cowie Memorial Trophy was held on Wednesday, with 39 players taking part in honour of John Cowie, who sadly passed away some six years ago. The event remains an important annual tribute to John, who was a key member of the Dawn Patrol and the founder of the light-hearted Christmas awards that continue to bring plenty of laughter each year.

Although the day began with cool conditions, the weather soon warmed up and provided ideal conditions for an enjoyable round of golf (Greens aside!). There was plenty of good golf on display but, as always with the Dawn Patrol, the day was equally about friendship, banter, and enjoying the company of fellow golfers.

The competition was closely contested, with all three leading players finishing on 38 points. On countback, Charles Gerty took third place, Tom Roberton finished second, and Arthur Noble claimed the JC trophy. The “Nearest the Pin” prize on the 17th hole was won by Mick North.

After the match, the players attended a lunch where Kevin Wilford welcomed John’s wife, Kathleen, and conveyed a message of remembrance. Kathleen then presented the prizes to all the winner and the John Cowie Trophy.

It was a fitting tribute to a much-loved man, and the spirit of the day captured the joy and friendship that John brought to the club. His memory lives on through events such as these.

For 20 or more players, both first and second prizes will be awarded. (2/3 to first and 1/3 to second)
