Thursday 8th May 2025 – John Cowie Trophy

A special memorial golf match was held on Thursday in honour of John Cowie, who passed away some 5 years ago. This is an annual tribute to John who was a key member of the Dawn Patrol and was the founder of the light hearted Christmas awards. The day was marked by camaraderie, friendly competition, and remembrance.

The competition was closely contested, with Bob Pippett emerging as the winner by a single shot, finishing with an impressive 42 points. Hot on his heels was Rod Bird, who secured second place with 41 points. The “Nearest the Pin” on the 17th was won by Charles Freeman.

After the match, the players attended a lunch where Kevin Wilford welcomed John’s wife, Kathleen, and conveyed a message of remembrance. Subsequently, she presented the prizes to the winner who received the JC Trophy, the runner-up and the winner of  NTP.

It was a fitting tribute to a much-loved man, and the spirit of the day captured the joy and friendship that John brought to the club. His memory lives on in events such as these.

Kevin wrote to Kathleen and sent her a copy of the photos kindly taken by Larry St Croix.

She responded saying

“It was such a lovely afternoon. I liked the idea that everyone in the room was, at some point, thinking about John.
I was so pleased to be there and be part of the day. I enjoyed it very much and everyone was so kind and considerate. Thank you so much for organising this and inviting me along. It was special for me. Thank you for sharing the photos with me.
Best wishes to you and Chris,
Kathleen”
